Karina Trushina (Карина Трушина)

I graduated from MGIMO University in Moscow, Russia, in International Business and International Energy Cooperation, and in September 2026 I started an MSc in Finance and Investment at the University of Greenwich in London.

I model what energy projects cost, earn and risk. My bachelor’s thesis tested Russian small modular reactors in four MENA markets, and my case work with Rosatom and Russian Energy Week covers shipping routes and data-centre strategy.

About

Finance, with an energy edge.

I was born in Khabarovsk, in the Russian Far East. I study how an energy project becomes an investment case: what a megawatt-hour costs, what return it earns, and which institutions and financing make it bankable. I received my bachelor’s degree with honours from MGIMO in Moscow, Russia (2022–26), wrote my thesis on small modular reactors, and started my MSc at the University of Greenwich in September 2026. Next, I want to apply this thinking to fintech, investment banking, real estate and business development.

Data centres for Russia’s energy sector: a 2025–2030 strategy

Russian Energy Week × Case-IN · October 2025 · Team Energo-Vision · 2nd place

A six-stage roadmap for data centres of fuel and energy companies: PUE of 1.3 or lower, at least 50% renewables, modular and SMR-powered sites, and edge nodes for remote assets. I led the energy-efficiency and sustainability track; the economics point to a 5–7 year payback.

Investment in the Arctic oil and gas sector: strategy, geopolitics and security

Course project · April 2026 · with Iuliia Ivanova

Why the Arctic matters to energy investors: about 90 bn barrels of oil north of the Arctic Circle, flagship Russian projects (Yamal LNG, Arctic LNG 2, Vostok Oil) set against Norwegian, US and Canadian ones, and an infrastructure gap on the Northern Sea Route worth roughly $300 bn in Russia alone. Closes with a risk map: sanctions, costs 50–100% above temperate analogues, technology barriers and climate.
